The issue of Gun Control in America

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

I don’t normally rant on political or social issues on my blog. However, while reading today I noticed a post on a blog that I read regularly that really resonated with my way of thinking.

I am a military retiree (U.S. Navy) and it really frustrates me when politicians and liberals in general get going on Gun Control. I honestly do NOT know what their TRUE agenda is but I honestly doubt that anyone’s safety is actually what their end goal is.

For those of you who think Gun Control is a good thing, I would suggest you ask the citizens of Australia how that’s working for them. Some years ago Australia confiscated ALL the guns and pulverized them. Well, that’s what they said they did… but unfortunately, the criminals somehow managed to keep theirs and they terrorize the citizenry at will. Only the police, military and the crooks have guns. If anyone has one and uses it to protect themselves or their family, THEY are instantly in the wrong and suffer the consequences. How wrong is that?

Then we throw in Terrorists and what they want to do to us nowdays and being defenseless is NOT something I want to be. But, many of our elected officials want just that… and the terrorists are loving it… and donating lots of money to those politicians.

Even though there is no such thing as an issue that everyone agrees on, matters surrounding autonomy and self defense are of major interest to terrorists.

Since their goals usually include harming people and spreading fear, they absolutely laugh with glee when one group seeks to disarm another within the same society; especially when the people being disarmed (example veterans) are the ones terrorists want to murder.

Olympic Gold?

Sunday, August 21st, 2016

These days, when you turn on the television and hear something about “gold fever,” you can bet it is the Olympics that the commentator is talking about. Have you ever wondered just how much GOLD is actually in one of those Gold Medals?

If you have, you’re not alone. I was reading a note from one of the top Gold Websites the other day and discovered that the current Gold Medals are mostly Silver! Each Gold Medal is composed of 494 grams of silver, in fact, with only 6 grams of actual gold plating the exterior. The 6 gram gold content is actually the minimum allowed by the International Olympic Committee and they’re worth about $550 in precious metals per medal.

The 2016 Rio Silver Medals have 500 grams of sterling silver each with a value of about $300 in precious metals per medal.

The Bronze Medals are great to hang on your wall and they’re made of 475 grams of copper and 25 grams of zinc. At the current market rate for the raw materials they’re worth only about $2.50 each!

Just some interesting facts obtained from following the folks at:

Thanksgiving 2009

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

In this year of 2009 many of us, here in the United States, have less to be thankful for than we had last year… thanks in a large part to the current economic situation.

The most thanks, however, goes to the members of Congress and the “Current Administration” who are spending money that they DO NOT HAVE and can get only by taxing us and taking away even more from us… so we’ll have even LESS next year to give thanks for!

Yes, that’s a mouthfull…  and all true!

I got the news yesterday that an associate’s home had burned to the ground while she was away at work. Fortunately her father, who is wheelchair bound, was able to get to the door and escape… with the dog! All they have left is the clothes on their backs… What to be thankful for???  Well, for starters, the place was insured!  And she has lots of friends who are pitching in to help out, both financially and otherwise.

Stories like this give us hope in this time of year. Knowing that there are still good people around who will help you out when you’re down on your luck. Having good friends is so important these days… and in these days of isolation and not necessarily knowing who your neighbors are… maybe it’s a good time to actually find out?  Say a friendly Hello!  Don’t lower your eyes or turn away.  Instead, open up just a little and let a friendship happen. Hold that door for someone, let them go first, smile instead of scowl.  Little things can mean a lot so think about it and take a turn at being the best YOU that you can be!

You may not have a HUGE spread to invite folks over to share but you can still be nice to people… and NOT just during the holidays… but all year long.

Here’s hoping YOU have something to celebrate at Thanksgiving and that you have someone wonderful to celebrate it with.  A great meal is just a nice PLUS in the equation… from my point of view!

And, lest we forget, we’re able to celebrate Thanksgiving day because of our Men and Women of the Armed Forces who serve so that you don’t have to! Remember them always in your prayers and in your contributions, when asked.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Solving Life’s Little Problems…

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

In today’s economy it’s common to overhear conversations that I categorize as “Gloom and Doom.”  So many people find themselves in Overwhelm and after a while… when no solution presents itself, they don’t always make the best decisions.

Hopefully, you are not in that situation… and if you are, I am NOT a coach… so don’t expect any of those great words of wisdom from me.  I do know a great coach, however, and if you ask me I can put you in contact and it’s possible you can find your way out of your dilemma.

In the meantime, if some extra cash would help you out of the situation you’re in… I have some ideas in that regard and I’ll share them with you in the next few paragraphs…

This week I happened to be in a state office building near where I live to set up an LLC for a business we’re starting.  I was amazed at the number of people that were there, in what’s supposed to be a DOWN economy, starting their OWN businesses!  I guess, when you’re laid off or just need to make money, striking out on your own seems like the right way to go for more people than I thought!

That said, have YOU ever had thoughts of starting and/or owning your own business?  It can be an intimidating thought. And then, if you start a “Home Based Business” you could actually run a business out of a spare room in your house or from your kitchen table.

I’ve started several of these and some have done much better than others.  The ones that did well were the ones in which I listened to those who were provided to guide me to success.  When I followed in the footsteps of those who were where I wanted to be… darn if I didn’t also have tremendous success.  There were some disappointments along the way but by and large, when I followed the plan that was laid out for me… I made money!  And, when I started doing it MY WAY… that’s when my business headed for the tank.  There’s a lesson there!

With so many of today’s society fitting the mold of “Baby Boomers” I took note of the many complaints that I’ve heard in general chit-chat about aches and pains and general sluggishness, overweight challenges, difficulty in sleeping and lack of energy. I’m afraid that much of this is a result of the way many of us eat and or drink.  Too much coffee, too many sweets and way too few fruits and vegetables in our diets.

As I am a military retiree, and an old country boy, I was always a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Living overseas and meeting new people after I retired lead me to a much more vegetarian lifestyle. Quitting smoking, getting more exercise and a healthy diet has helped me to reach the ripe old age where I find myself. I’m now observing some of those aches and pains as a “baby boomer” and I wanted a way to combat them naturally… as all the pills that are promoted on the “Idiot Box” typically cause more problems than they ever cover up.  Notice that I didn’t say they fixed anything…

In my search for something Natural to help me live longer and enjoy that extra life span more… I discovered that the natives in the Amazon Rain Forrest have lived long and healthy lives and one of the main reasons for that long and healthy life is the Acai berry. I did some serious research and I found that everybody is selling something with an Acai berry in it and I can even get them in raw form at my local health food store.

What my local health food store doesn’t tell me is that when they allow those little berry pieces to stay on the shelf, a high percentage of the power that the berry passes to the person consuming it diminishes tremendously over time. A very short time!  So, I discovered that I needed to go to the Amazon Rain Forrest and get my own berries and eat them right there, much as the natives have for centuries… or, find a way to get the berries to me in their full potency!  What a dilemma I was in.

More research was in order because I’m really not up for a trip to the Amazon!  What I discovered is this… There’s a company that has worked a deal with the local harvesters in the rain forests of the Amazon region.  The harvesters have quit cutting down the trees.  Yes, they were doing this for the wood!  Now, they’re harvesting the berries and the company freeze dries them right there on the spot and ships them to the USA for processing.  This keeps the berries from loosing their potency!

In return for not cutting down the  trees, the local people in the Amazon are learning to manage the berry crops, and the company responsible for all this is plowing a large portion of it’s profits back into the region to help the children who live there.  Things like schools, medical care and clothing that these kids would never have otherwise. If you’d like to be part of something “Bigger than you” then this is where you need to be!

The company behind all this is MonaVie. The products they offer are all juices that combine the Acai Berry and a number of other fruits and berries that together provide you with a wonderful drink and long list of benefits…  like antioxidants, nutrition and just four ounces of MonaVie provide an antioxidant capacity (ORAC value) equivalent to 13 servings of common fruits and vegetables. If you drink it every day, you’ll treat your body to a nutritious blend of 19 fruits designed to help you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

When was the last time you drank four ounces of anything that gave you all that?

Now for the good stuff…  This is a GREAT business opportunity!  Actually, it’s an EXCELLENT business opportunity and if you have ever done “due diligence” before, you will know after doing your due diligence on MonaVie that it is really a Top Notch business.  It’s financially free and that’s saying something today! Hosting Your Website Safely and Economically

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

You probably get emails all the time with ads for web hosting, both FREE and paid. Do you know the real difference between the two?

The first question I would suggest that YOU ask yourself is… Am I running a business or an ad agency? If you use free hosting, typically you will have someone’s advertisements displayed on YOUR website… and they’re not for you! And you have NO control over those Ads… they could wind up being XXX ads and you would never know unless someone told you or you saw them or… worst case, a potential customer emailed or called you and blasted you for having those tasteless ads on your site.

The other thing that you’ll notice with most free hosting is that you do NOT get to choose YOUR domain name… instead, you use theirs OR a modified version of it (tyically a subdomain). If you’re wondering what a subdomain is I’ll provide an example. One of my websites can be found at: http://www.Daveylee.net When I wanted to use that same domain name to display some photographs and stories about a time in my life when I lived on an island in the Pacific Ocean I created a “subdomain” of my domain name to handle that. It’s a function that exists in almost every hosting control panel. The Subdomain “name” replaces the “www” portion of the URL. The domain name for my life on the island page is: http://Midway.Daveylee.net

So, how do you prevent “Other People’s” advertisements on YOUR website? You prevent it by purchasing a hosting account from a reputable host. There are several kinds of hosting accounts that you can spend your hard earned money on. My philosophy is… if you work hard for your money, you shouldn’t have to work hard to spend it! It should be easy and you should get a LOT for it in your hosting account!

NOTE: You can always have “Other People’s Advertisements” on your website when they are PAYING YOU to have them there… That is an entirely different situation that you can PROFIT from and an entirely different subject for discussion some other day.
What are the different kinds of hosting accounts? Well… there are hosting accounts that allow you to host as many websites as you want to… all for “one money.” Some of the Pro’s who post regularly on the Forum’s say that those hosting accounts don’t give great results with the search engines… They say that you need separate hosting accounts for each website. I happen to agree… Other accounts only allow ONE domain for your money.
Does hosting have to be expensive? Absolutely not! You can get great hosting for $5 to $6 per month all the way up to $25 and more per month. My first hosting account cost me $25+ per month. Did I need that? Absolutely NOT! Then why did I do that? There was a forum where I could ask questions and get help. And yes, I went there and got help. Now that I’ve taken classes and read a huge shelf full of books on various subjects related to creating and operating a successful website, including forums, membership sites, blogs, autoresponders and more… I don’t feel like I need a $25+ per month account… so I DON’T! My accounts now are MUCH less Expensive than that.

There are other things that you need to look at when you’re considering what hosting provider to go with. If you’ve become educated, write your own code, understand how to install scripts, set permissions and understand what all these terms mean… then you probably won’t need a lot of hand-holding. You can handle just about any kind of host that gives you what you want.

If you do not know how to install scripts and all that other stuff… and want your host who provides a button that you can click to install a WordPress Blog on your site for you (or just about anything else)… then you really will have to purchase hosting from a company that offers you a control panel in your “back office” that does those things FOR YOU. That would likely be a “C-Panel” with a feature known as Fantastico. You can find hosting like this at HostMonster.com for as little as $6.95 per month. They make everything quite simple with lots of image based links so you can navigate the site easily. Check it out and I think you’ll like it a lot. I have an account there and I’m VERY pleased with it.

Have a great day and we’ll talk about more hosting services and other hosting providers soon.
